Print This PageWell, I must say the Canadian Olympic Committee outdid themselves once again for the Paralympic Opening Ceremonies! The show was nothing short of spectacular! The parade of athletes was not only moving (inspiring) but it was MOVING! The music rocked, everyone danced, and it was a joyous PARTY! The Canadians really let loose--the whole show was a celebration of disabled ability and excitement. There was a man with emaciated legs who was BREAKDANCING, wheelchairs were doing flips on half-pipe, a famous Canadian rock star with one arm, one leg and a heck of a voice wowed us all. We broke the world record for flash mob dancing with a synchronized audience dance. You can see lots of photos on my facebook page (Bonnie Lee St John). I felt so moved to see disabled athletes truly honored as national heroes. Gotta run--we are heading up to Whistler for skiing and Biathlon today! I will be cheering for Ralph Green the only other African American, amputee US team alpine skier...and Caitie the visually impaired skier from Windham...and of course all of team USA!! I was told that we have a good chance for a medal in biathlon. Stay tuned for HOCKEY on Sunday, too! For where and how to watch, look at the earlier blog entries. GO USA!!!!

Great news! If you don't want to wait until the NBC show tomorrow night, you can see coverage of the Paralympic Opening Ceremonies tonight! Approximately two hours after the Opening Ceremony ends (about 11PM PST,1AM EST), the coverage will be available as Video on Demand (VOD) on the official Internet channel of the International Paralympic Committee, ParalympicSport.TV.
By the way, ParalympicSport.TV will broadcast from the Vancouver Paralympic Winter Games everyday from the 12th thru the 21st of March. All Paralympic sports will be covered in the programming, either live or delayed. This coverage will also be made available as Video on Demand (VOD) after the events, again on www.ParalympicSport.TV. So, spread the word!

We're here in Vancouver! Can't wait for the opening ceremonies. We've heard that they will be officially opened by Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean, Governor General of Canada. Very exciting! The ceremony promises to be a world-class celebration that will capture the unique spirit and heritage of Canada and the Host Region of the Games as well as show the amazing spirit of Paralympic athletes and great Canadians. More than 4,000 volunteer performers including dancers, singers, acrobats, athletes, and musicians will celebrate the compelling achievements of 506 athletes from more than 40 countries around the world at the Winter Paralympics in Vancouver.
At the end of the Opening Ceremony, the lighting of the Paralympic Cauldron will signal the official start of the Games and the end of the 10-day Vancouver 2010 Paralympic Torch Relay, which began on 3 March in Ottawa.
Look for Darcy and me in the box with the Official US Presidential Delegation. We'll be waving to all of you!
